Adhesives Sealants

Rudolph Bros. & Co. offers a broad range of silicone adhesive/sealants which are liquids or pastes that cure to a strong, durable, resilient silicone rubber at room temperature on exposure to atmospheric moisture. Our adhesive/sealants are formulated to provide excellent adhesion to many different substrates and are ideal materials for bonding, sealing, or coating applications. Besides excellent adhesion, they also have high elongation and high tear strength to absorb stresses caused by substrates with dissimilar coefficients of thermal expansion or by substrates with a wide range of mechanical motion.

All of our one part adhesive/sealants show good adhesion to almost all materials except polyolefin and polytetra-fluoroethylene resins. Adhesion can be improved by following pretreatment with suitable primers. They are available in Paste-Consistency grades as well as Pourable/Self-Leveling grades. Paste grades will flow only with external pressure; they may be applied on horizontal, vertical or overhead surfaces. They will also adhere to small objects while the cure takes place. They are designed for industrial production applications such as sealing parts, adhering components or formed-in-place gasketing. Self-leveling grades are in the form of pourable liquids which will flow out and self-level on a surface. The viscosity of these products makes them ideally suited for protective coatings, filling small surface voids or for potting where thin section filling is required.

Rudolph Bros. & Co. also supplies High Strength Adhesive/Sealants. These adhesive/sealants are specifically designed for mechanical applications where high strength is required; these products offer our customers approximately twice the mechanical bond strength of the standard grade adhesive/sealants.

For electrical/electronic applications, we offer Noncorrosive, Low Odor Adhesive/Sealants. These are used in applications where neutral cure by-products, which will not cause discoloration or corrosion of copper or other sensitive metals, are required.

High Temperature Adhesive/Sealants are also available. Designed for extremely high temperature performance, these products are specially formulated and processed to perform at temperatures to 500°F continuous operation and to 600°F for short periods, with relatively little change in physical properties.

Many of our adhesive/sealants conform to various military and commercial specifications.

Potting & Conformal Coating

Rudolph Bros. & Co. offers an extensive line of silicone encapsulating systems and conformal coatings.Our silicone encapsulation compounds and coatings have varying degrees of work life, viscosity, and hardness for many specific encapsulation and coating applications such as modules, strain-sensitive components, transformers, printed circuit boards and coils. Several systems are formulated to impart a flame resistance that will meet UL 94 V-O rating. Others are used specifically for applications where excellent thermal conductivity is required. If you require UL recognized systems, we have several excellent choices used when a device eventually must obtain UL approval.

Among the outstanding properties of silicones is their resistance to extreme temperatures. No other elastomers can be used at temperatures above 150°C

The electrical properties of silicone rubber are compatible to those of other insulating materials at room temperature. However, silicone rubber has the advantage that these properties remain virtually constant over a temperature range from -45°C to + 180°C. The fact that their insulation resistance, dielectric strength and loss factor are practically unaltered by high temperatures is important in many applications.They are also virtually unchanged after immersion in water.

Silicone Mold Making and Tooling

Rudolph Bros. & Co. mold making compounds are two-component, room temperature-vulcanizing silicone (RTV) rubbers with excellent fidelity of reproduction. We offer suitable grades, condensation and addition cure, for making all kinds of molds, no matter how intricate, and for use with all types of reproduction material, whether wax, plaster, polyester and epoxy resins, urethane foam, or low-melting metal alloy. Thanks to their great flexibility and outstanding release properties, our mold making rubbers separate easily from the model. Their high resin resistance means they can be used over and over again. All of our systems are diverse, easy-to-handle materials that can be used for applications ranging from prototypes and parts to flexible molds, foundry patterns and core boxes. Our high performance elastomers are used to produce rollers, tires, vibratory mill linings, belts, gaskets, seals wheels, molded parts, die pads, bushings, and gears.

Rudolph Bros. line of polyurethanes is formulated to offer a broad spectrum of physical properties. The materials feature a range of hardness levels, from an extremely soft, Shore 10A to a very hard, Shore 90D. Many of our systems exhibit outstanding tear strength, while others feature excellent toughness and resistance to impact and abrasion. A number of our systems can be successfully used for both thick sections and small, thin-walled parts. And, the elastomeric materials provide outstanding reproduction of detail, closely resembling the appearance of injection-molded thermoplastic production parts.

Tooling Epoxy

Rudolph Bros. & Co. has been selling epoxies for industrial tooling applications for more than 30 years. Their hands-on experience in the tooling market has allowed Rudolph Bros. to become one of the leading suppliers of epoxy tooling systems. They have an extensive line of products developed solely for demanding tooling applications such as resin transfer molding, vacuum forming, and prototype injection molding. Their product line consists of room temperature and high temperature epoxy surface coats, laminating systems, and casting systems. These epoxies are superior in terms of durability, build speed, tool strength, dimensional stability and precision.

Their surface coats are paste-viscosity resins designed to be applied by brush or squeegee to a model or pattern to function as the surface of the cured tool. They generally possess handling properties that facilitate easy mixing and application, and their cured properties provide a tough, durable surface that can be sanded or scribed with ease.

Their laminating resin systems consist of both unfilled and filled products that are intended for use with reinforcing fabrics to construct high performance composite tooling prototype and/or production parts.

Their casting resins are versatile products that can provide an excellent solution to a variety of industrial applications. They generally contain a filler of some type that is provided to produce specific handling or cured properties. These fillers can be of a metallic nature, or of a variety of non-metal fillers. The specific fillers can provide lower shrinkage, higher compressive strengths, better metal forming properties, or other characteristics suited to a particular use. A variety of systems, for both room temperature as well as high temperature service are available.

Urethanes

Polyurethanes are renowned for their outstanding bonding capabilities, including excellent flexibility and durability in joining substrates such as rigid plastics, polyolefins, polycarbonate, nylon, Metton®, sheet molding compounds and fiberglass-reinforced plastics and metal to plastic assemblies. The adhesives canbe used with minimal substrate preparation. Recent advances in urethane technology have yielded two-component systems with improved low-temperature flexibility, hydrolytic stability and sag resistance as well as a broader range or work lives, cure temperatures and packaging options. Rudolph Bros. & Co. offers an extensive line of polyurethane potting and encapsulating systems which are Low Cost, Easy to Handle and Non-MBOCA Non-TDI based products. Our polyurethane potting and encapsulation compounds have varying degrees of work life, viscosity, and hardness for many specific potting and encapsulating applications such as modules, strain-sensitive components, transformers, and coils. Several systems are formulated to impart a flame resistance that will meet UL 94 V-O rating in 1/8″ test sample. Others are used specifically for applications where excellent thermal conductivity is required. If you require UL recognized systems, we have several excellent choices used when a device eventually must obtain UL approval. These systems have a UL Electrical Temperature Index rating of 120°C. All of our potting and encapsulation products exhibit excellent performance when exposed to adverse environments. Operating temperature ranges are between -55°C to +130°C. We also offer a line of High Technology Potting, Casting and Molding compounds. These products are two-component, polybutadiene-based liquid urethane casting and potting systems. When reacted these high-technology systems produce tough, stable elastomers, superior in most respects to silicone elastomers. These elastomers have outstanding hydrolytic stability, outstanding electrical properties over a wide temperature range, excellent thermal shock resistance, low temperature elasticity, low exotherm and minimal shrinkage. These properties make these products ideal for such applications as cable molding, cable connectors, underwater protection, strain-sensitive potting, high voltage potting, cryogenic potting or embedment, vibration dampers, sealant bushings, or any area where dependability is of critical importance. Another unique characteristic and subsequent application for these high-technology products is their acoustical similarity to water and use as a transducer potting material. This demanding application requires the hydrolytic stability, acoustic properties, and dielectric properties which these products exhibit.
